There’s a whole lot we can say about 2020. There’s no denying it will be a year we will remember for a long time to come. With so much devastation and multiple industries collapsing, it’s no surprise that the automotive sector recorded a 20% drop since this time last year. Pandemic or not, most of us still need wheels to get around. So, if you happen to be in the market for a new car, we’ve put together this handy list of Australia’s top-selling cars in 2020 to spark your car search with some fun.

Top selling cars in 2020

1. Toyota HiLux – $22,325

It wouldn’t be the best selling list without the quintessential Aussie ute. The team at Toyota certainly know what they’re doing, with the Hilux ranking as Australia’s top-selling car for the past four years in a row. Quite the feat. It’s rugged as an off-road vehicle and it can withstand 995-kilogram payload, making it the perfect vehicle for tradies and families alike. It also performs well as a suburban vehicle, especially for young families, as the interior is not as spacious as other utes. Full review of specs and more below:

2. Ford Ranger – $28,340

The Ford Ranger has taken out almost every award for Best Dual Cab Ute. It’s spacious, safe, tough, and sleek. Surfers, tradies, campers, cyclists, families, anyone that needs a tonne of space, the Ford Ranger is a feature-packed option. Here is a full review:

3. Toyota Rav 4 – $31,290

Dubbed “Car of the Year” in 2019 by News Corp, Drive, West Wheels and Cars Guide, the new Rav 4 has a lot to boast about. The sporty SUV comes in a five-door option with loads of specification options such as two-wheel or four-wheel drive.

The mid-size SUV offers all the tech of a city car with the grunt of an off-road vehicle. The main selling point of this car is the hybrid option, which is possibly why it has been rated so highly. Check out the full review here:

4. Toyota Corolla – $23,335

For a zippy little number that is reliable and sleek, the Corolla hatchback is a winner. If you’re looking for a more spacious option, it also comes in a sedan model. Both models boast smart technology and are compatible with Apple Play and Android Auto. They also have Hyrbid technology, maximising fuel efficiency, and all the safety features Toyota is known for. 5. Mazda CX-5 – $30,880

A car that drives like luxury but without the hefty luxury price tag – enter The Mazda CX-5. Featuring Apple Play and Android Auto, the tech that makes up this car is extremely impressive. Its spacious interior doesn’t feel like you’re driving a bus, and it’s available in two and all-wheel drive, you can choose a CX-5 to suit your needs.
